Make a watermelon bunny this Easter with your kids. Its fresh, fun, healthy and super delicious.
You will need:
1 Watermelon
1 Strawberry
½ honeydew melon
½ cantaloupe/rock melon
½ white dragon fruit
7 small skewers
1 sharp knife
1 extra-large melon ball scoop
1 small melon ball scoop
Take a small watermelon. Then take a large sharp knife and cut off the top and bottom. Keep these for later to scoop out balls to make the face and feet.
Cut off the sides and keep these for later to make the ears.
Continue to cut the other side of the melon so you create a cube. Then cut the corners to create a cylindrical octagon. Continue to cut around the melon until all the rind is gone. Then run your knife up and down the sides to smooth out the small ridges
Tip: Place a plate the size of the cylinder you want to cut to guide you.
Place your watermelon bunny body on a serving board.
Cut out bunny ears the same size as the height of your watermelon cylinder. Place the template on the first cut of rind and trace around the sharp knife. Place 2 skewers in the bottom of each ear and place in the top of the watermelon cylinder.
Take a honeydew melon and cut off the rind. Cut a slice from the side with no seeds and set aside. Cut out bunny feet. Place the template on the honey dew melon and trace around the sharp knife. Place at the bottom of the bunny’s body. Using the small melon ball scoop, scoop out 10 honeydew melon balls and scatter them on top of the bunny.
Take the extra-large melon ball scoop and scoop out 4 balls of watermelon. Place 2 on each of the feet. Add skewers to the other 2 and secure to the front of the bunny. Then take the small melon ball scoop and scoop out 16 balls of watermelon. Place 3 on one foot and 3 on the other. Take the remaining 10 and scatter them on top of the bunny.
Take the strawberry and cut it in half. Cut out a heart shape. Secure to the front of the bunny as pictured.
Using the small melon ball scoop, scoop out 10 cantaloupe/rock melon balls and scatter them on top of the bunny. Do the same with the dragon fruit.
Voilà! You are done. Happy Easter to you and your family. May you stay happy, safe and well. Sending you love and hugs.
